What bag are you chasing?
|
Have you ever feel so tired (Physically, mentally, emotionally) that you just felt like giving up?
We all feel like that sometimes, but I just wanted to share something that Jesus said to us that can help you when you feel like that.
Its found in Matthew 11:28-30, where were we read:
Jesus said “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
You see, if you ever feel like you just can’t carry on anymore, just remember that Jesus has promised to help you if you just come to Him.
Whether it be with school, chores, or just how you feel, He has promised to replace without ever you are carrying with his load which is refreshing and light.
What bag are you chasing after right now? The world's bag or Jesus'?
The World's bag/burden represents the following:
Â
- Being judgmental/unforgiving
- Pursuit of Riches
- Trying to be popular
- Too much entertainment
- Being a people pleaser
- Not knowing how to say “No"
- Anxiety/Worrying
- Dwelling on past failures/Bad Conscience
- Unconfessed Sin
- Living a Lie (Last but not least. Probably the heaviest weight)
Â
There is no bigger burden then carrying the weight of lie on your back. As the poem goes, "what a tangled web we receive when at first we practice to deceive?" If anyone of you are feeling as if you’ve been keeping something that you did that was bad a secret, just know that there is great relief in confessing that bad thing or sin. We are hear to help you for it is says in James 5:14-16:
“Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.”
Those Elders that it refers to hear can also be your parents. I can’t tell you how many times growing up I shared my sins with my mom, even in some cases were I felt that I was deserving of punishment. Please know that the burden that you carry living in dark is so much more than anything you will receive by confessing them. In fact, Satan loves when you live in the dark. He is the creator of the lie and when you live that type of life, you are actually living under his rulership.
It says in Revelation 22:14-15 ERV:
““Great blessings belong to those who have washed their robes. They will have the right to eat the food from the tree of life. They can go through the gates into the city. Outside the city are all those who live like dogs—those who do evil magic, those who sin sexually, those who murder, those who worship idols, and those who love to lie and pretend to be good.”
You see to enter into God’s kingdom, you must confess your sins and turn away from them. The Bible likens it to washing our robes or clothes. How many of us like to walk around in dirty smelly clothes? Raise your hands. How many of us never have clothes that never have to get washed because they never get dirty? Exactly, none of us. We all get dirty at times. In the same way, we all do bad things at times which make us dirty but Jesus came so that we can be washed clean.
King David wrote in Psalms 51:1-17 ERV after he had done something really bad:
“God, be merciful to me because of your faithful love. Because of your great compassion, erase all the wrongs I have done. Scrub away my guilt. Wash me clean from my sin. I know I have done wrong. I remember that sin all the time. I did what you said is wrong. You are the one I have sinned against. I say this so that people will know that I am wrong and you are right. What you decided is fair. I was born to do wrong, a sinner before I left my mother’s womb. You want me to be completely loyal, so put true wisdom deep inside of me. Remove my sin and make me pure. Wash me until I am whiter than snow! Let me hear sounds of joy and happiness again. Let the bones you crushed be happy again. Don’t look at my sins. Erase them all. God, create a pure heart in me, and make my spirit strong again. Don’t push me away or take your Holy Spirit from me. Your help made me so happy. Give me that joy again. Make my spirit strong and ready to obey you. I will teach the guilty how you want them to live, and the sinners will come back to you. God, spare me from the punishment of death. My God, you are the one who saves me! Let me sing about all the good things you do for me! My Lord, I will open my mouth and sing your praises! You don’t really want sacrifices, or I would give them to you. The sacrifice that God wants is a humble spirit. God, you will not turn away someone who comes with a humble heart and is willing to obey you.”
Life is like that. We all get dirty at times with sin which will definitely make you feel like you are going through each day carrying a 100 lb bag on your back unless you confess it.
Are you not tired yet? The longer you chose to carry the unnecessary burdens of the world, the heavier they will be come. Until it weighs you down so much that you are no longer fruitful. Don't waste your life like that.
If you've reached the point that you can no longer go any further, then just lay those burdens at the altar. Give them to Jesus and He will give you rest. He will give you His Load instead which is actually refreshing. You can enter into His kingdom even now by just leaving those old bags at His feet. He will give you His Holy Spirit, and you will in sense be seated with Him even now in the heavenly places. Ephesians 2:4-10 says:
"But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Jesus’ Load represents:
Â
- Sharing the Good News with others
- Praise
- Prayer
- Reading God's Word,
- Getting encouragement from our fellow believers
- Viewing yourself through God's eyes
- Forgiving others
- Helping others/Working with your hands
- Seeking First The Kingdom
Â
Jesus’ load is light because literally it is just that: He ordained us to carry this light of the good news to the world. And trust me when I say this: the burden of carrying Jesus' light into the world is so much lighter than the burden of continuing to walk in darkness.
God never designed you to live life burdened down. You are His child. You are Princes & Princesses. You are to hold your heads high. You should not view life the same way that those who do not know God.
He has great plans for you, but you have to avoid being burdened down by the loads that the world wants to put on you. Jesus talks about this in a little story called a parable, and I want to go over this with you so pay attention. In Matthew 13:3-9, Jesus told this story:
“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died. Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted! Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”
Do any of you what this story means? Thankfully Jesus did not leave us without an explanation, because He goes on to explain this to us in Matthew 13:18-23:
“Now listen to the explanation of the parable about the farmer planting seeds: The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message about the Kingdom and don’t understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their hearts. The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced. The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”
Jesus wants us to be fruitful. But we can’t be if we allow the worries of this life and the lure of wealth distract us.
You see, Jesus gave us the secret to living a truly satisfying life. Would you all like to know this secret?
We can find it in Matthew 6:19-34, where Jesus said:
"Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
“Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is bad, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
Jesus said that if we make serving God the primary purpose of our life, that He would take care of everything else. It doesn’t mean that we don’t have to work and be lazy, rather we should strive to serve others all the more like Jesus did. But we shouldn’t worry or feel as if we need to control everything for it to work out properly. Just know that God got you and he will take care life for you so long as you spend time with him and don’t try to take care of things yourself. God is much bigger, smarter, and wiser than us. So He is in a much better position to carry these loads that we try to. So let Him. Stop trying to be God of your life, but instead let God lead your life. Just walk the path that He has placed in front of your feet with your head held high instead of low loaded down with a bunch of stuff that you shouldn’t have been carrying in the first place.
There are some days that are more difficult and we may need more encouragement. We find that encouragement in God's Word. "Don't be afraid, I am with you." (Gen.26:24) "I'll give you strength." (Psalm 28:7) "I'm with you in times of trouble." (Psalm 34:6) These words of encouragement are just what we need to face the hard times that may come our way.
Is there something weighing heavy on your heart and/or mind right now that you need to leave at Jesus' feet?
