Just doing what we're supposed to... (Luke 17:10)

Follow The Master's Example

There are many lessons that we can learn from our master, Jesus Christ, particularly in the area of Evangilizing. I have decided to share a few lessons that I've learned from a famous account in the fouth chapter of the book of John, where Jesus interacts with a Samaritan woman by a well. I have listed the verses below, and the corresponding lessons that one can glean from them. Please follow along in your bibles:

John 4:6 - Throughout our day, do we look for opportunities to share spiritual truths in the midst of our most mundane activities.

John 4:7 - Start with some chit chat

John 4:9 - Nowadays, people don't really talk to one another, so most will be pleasantly surprised that we have decided to take personal interest in them.

John 4:10 - Steer the conversation towards something spiritual by use of thought provoking questions.

John 4:13 - 15 - Answer questions appropriately, but be careful not to dominate/control the conversation by doing all the talking.

John 4:16 - 19 - Don't try to make the individual feel guilty or awkward. Give them commendation whenever possible or appropriate.

John 4:20 - 24 - Try to find common ground without watering down the truth.

John 4:25 - 26 - Only give them enough information as they are able to handle at the time. Don't overwater the seed. We are a team, so remember that you are not the only person trying to reach them for The Lord. (1 Corinthians 3:7)

At the end, or beginning of the conversation, don't forget to leave them with a personal copy of the bible, pocket version of the book of John, and/or an invitation to your bible study/ congregation meeting. This will help them to water the seed themselves if they so choose; thus, helping them to take a personal interest in their own spiritual health.

I hope you've enjoyed this brief synopsis of this account, and remember to always "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love." 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (NIV)
