The Son(s) of God vs the son(s) of Devil

Posted by GFNSProductions on May 22, 2023 at 9:35 PM

We’ve all seen those movies about the end times that depict a son of the devil, often referred to as “the Antichrist/beast” being born to bring about the end of the world. However, did you know that a reference to these event are actually written in the Bible?

As John, Jesus’ disciple and best friend, wrote:

“Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come.” (1 John 2:18)

To start, let us define the word “Antichrist”. In Christian studies of the end times, the Antichrist refers to people prophesied by the Bible to oppose Jesus Christ and substitute themselves in Christ's place before the Second Coming. The term “Anti-Christ” in this case can be translated “Against-Anointed One” or “Other-Messiah”. Although the term itself (including one plural form) can only be found four times in the New Testament, the depiction of the character(s) referenced can be found in several other passages. As the Apostle Paul wrote:

“Now, dear brothers and sisters, let us clarify some things about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and how we will be gathered to meet him. Don’t be so easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don’t believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation, or a letter supposedly from us. Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction. He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God. Don’t you remember that I told you about all this when I was with you? And you know what is holding him back, for he can be revealed only when his time comes. For this lawlessness is already at work secretly, and it will remain secret until the one who is holding it back steps out of the way. Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by the splendor of his coming. This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them. So God will cause them to be greatly deceived, and they will believe these lies. Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth.” (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12)

Yet, many people ask, “Is it possible that this Antichrist could be Satan’s literal son?” To answer this question, let us explore these possibilities through an examination of ancient prophecies and historical records relating to this matter.

The Bible records state that long ago fallen angels (aka demons) had intercourse with women of earth resulting in the birth of Nephilim. As it is written:

“The sons of God saw the beautiful women and took any they wanted as their wives…In those days, and for some time after, giant Nephilites lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes and famous warriors of ancient times.” (Genesis 6:2,4)

Based on this historical account, we find that it is possible for angelic beings to engage in sexual relations with humans and produce super human offspring. This verse even alludes to the fact that those stories we read of Greek demigods might actually be parallel secular accounts of the pre-flood world that the Nephilim and their spiritual parents dominated. God eventually did condemn that ancient world though with a global flood depicted the story of Noah, and punished those angels for their wicked deeds. We read:

“Yahweh [God] observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. So Yahweh was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. And Yahweh said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.” But Noah found favor with Yahweh.” (Genesis 6:5-8)

“Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit. So he went and preached to the spirits in prison— those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood…For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit. (1 Peter 3:18-20; 4:6)

“For if God didn’t spare angels when they sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and committed them to pits of darkness to be reserved for judgment; and didn’t spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood on the world of the ungodly…Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. They will say, ‘What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.’ They deliberately forget that God made the heavens long ago by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water. Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood. And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.” (2 Peter 2:4-5; 3:3-7)

“And I remind you of the angels who did not stay within the limits of authority God gave them but left the place where they belonged. God has kept them securely chained in prisons of darkness, waiting for the great day of judgment.” (Jude 1:6)

Yet, that first punishment was just a prelude to the punishment to come. During Jesus’ time on earth, an interaction with such a fallen angel/demon was recorded by his disciples which went like this:

“When Jesus arrived on the other side of the lake, in the region of the Gadarenes, two men who were possessed by demons met him. They came out of the tombs and were so violent that no one could go through that area. They began screaming at him, “Why are you interfering with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before God’s appointed time?”” (Matthew 8:28-29)

So we see here that these fallen angels/ demons were aware of their upcoming punishments for their sins dating back to the days of Noah. Yet, there are no records indicating that Satan himself participated in this pre-flood galactic orgy although he himself led these angels into such a rebellion. Thus, it would explain why Satan was not similarly confined to Tartarus [in Greek Mythology, is the deep abyss that is used as a dungeon of torment and suffering for the wicked and as the prison for the Titans/demons] at that time.

This is one of the reasons why I think Satan is often referred to as “the tempter.” For he most likely tempted the angels to rebel in this manner while he himself knew better as to what would happen. As a result, one third of the heavenly host fell to the earth. As it is written:

“Then I witnessed in heaven another significant event. I saw a large red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, with seven crowns on his heads. His tail swept away one-third of the stars in the sky, and he threw them to the earth. He stood in front of the woman as she was about to give birth, ready to devour her baby as soon as it was born.” (Revelation 12:3-4)

It is as if Satan was like a bad big brother that basically leading his little brothers into badness and sin while at the same time himself not engaging in the same conduct as a means to conceal himself from the consequences. Afterwards, he accuses his the little brothers to his father so that he can look upon the execution of the punishment. For Satan was a jealous big brother and actually wished harm on his fellow angel siblings much like Cain did Abel, Esau plotted on Jacob, or Israel/Jacob’s oldest 10 sons wished death on their half brother Joseph (*Read Genesis 4:3-8; 27:41, & 37:18-20 at the end of this devotional for more historical context). He basically used the other angels, and humans for that matter, as pawns in his cosmic game of chess. As it is written:

“The serpent [aka Satan] was the shrewdest of all the wild animals Yahweh God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’” “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. Then the Lord God asked the woman, “What have you done?” “The serpent deceived me,” she replied. “That’s why I ate it.” Then the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all animals, domestic and wild. You will crawl on your belly, groveling in the dust as long as you live. And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”” (Genesis 3:1-7, 13-15)

“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry. During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’” Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Yahweh your God.’” Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.” “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship Yahweh your God and serve only him.’ ” Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus." (Matthew 4:1-11)

Even though Satan enticed Eve with lies, and attempted to do the same to Jesus, that in itself is not proof that he was kicked out of Heaven as of yet. In fact, there is similar cases of other angels using the same tactics to bring destruction to wicked kings (Read 1 Kings 22:19-23 for more information).

There is additional reason to believe that Satan himself didn’t participate in sexual escapades of the pre-flood days of Noah and escaped the earlier referenced imprisonments. If you’ve read the account of Job, which took place centuries later, you will see that Satan still had access to Heaven long after the Eden and Nephilim incidents occurred. We read:

“One day the members of the heavenly court came to present themselves before Yahweh, and the Accuser, Satan, came with them. “Where have you come from?” Yahweh asked Satan. Satan answered Yahweh, “I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on.” Then Yahweh asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.” Satan replied to Yahweh, “Yes, but Job has good reason to fear God. You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is! But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face!” “All right, you may test him,” Yahweh said to Satan. “Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don’t harm him physically.” So Satan left the Yahweh’s presence.” (Job 1:6-12)

“One day the members of the heavenly court came again to present themselves before Yahweh, and the Accuser, Satan, came with them. He fears God and stays away from evil. And he has maintained his integrity, even though you urged me to harm him without cause.” Satan replied to Yahweh, “Skin for skin! A man will give up everything he has to save his life. But reach out and take away his health, and he will surely curse you to your face!” “All right, do with him as you please,” Yahweh said to Satan. “But spare his life.” So Satan left the Yahweh’s presence, and he struck Job with terrible boils from head to foot.” (Job 2:1-7)

This monologue explains Satan’s very purpose from the beginning of time, namely: to test the children of God and see if they truly loved Him and will obey Him if given opportunity to rebel. From Eve, to Adam, to the angels, to Job, to Jesus, and so on. He’s been testing God’s children since the very beginning. Satan was even granted access into the Heavenly courts to hurl such accusations to God’s face almost on a daily basis. Compare the various translations of Psalms 109:6 for more information:

Nevertheless, in the last days, Satan knowing that his end is near and having nothing else to lose, will similarly follow suit as the rebellious angels of Noah’s day. Although Satan resisted the first intergalactic sexual orgies of old, the motivation to continue refraining from sexual relations with woman kind will lose its appeal once he loses his access rights into heaven in similar fashion as the other fallen demons. This is exactly what happens when war breaks out in heaven, and he is hurled to the earth. At that point, he realizes that his time is short here on earth so he proceeds to the most. As it is written:

“Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels. And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of heaven. This great dragon—the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world—was thrown down to the earth with all his angels. Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens, “It has come at last— salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth— the one who accuses them before our God day and night. And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die. Therefore, rejoice, O heavens! And you who live in the heavens, rejoice! But terror will come on the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great anger, knowing that he has little time.” And the dragon was angry at the woman and declared war against the rest of her children—all who keep God’s commandments and maintain their testimony for Jesus.”(Revelation 12:7-12, 17)

“Jesus said to them, ‘I saw Satan having fallen like lightning from heaven’”. (Luke 10:18)

At that time, I personally think Satan will finally decide to engage in similar sexual relations with earthly woman and himself produce the child referred to as the Anti-Christ. Much like Jesus, his genetic makeup would be a fusion of human and spirit. Unlike Jesus though, he will be the son of Satan vs. the one and only begotten son of God. For Yahweh God only ever had, and ever will have, one true born biological Son, Jesus, born of the same genetic makeup. As it is written:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him. Without him, nothing was made that has been made… The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born Son of the Father, full of grace and truth… No one has seen God at any time. The only born Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, has declared him.” (John 1:1-3, 14, 18)

“[Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created in the heavens and on the earth, visible things and invisible things, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things are held together.” (Colossians 1:15-17)

As for Satan’s child, would he look like the Nephilim giants of old? I personally think the dinosaur bones that are currently being uncovered today are remnants of the Nephilim actually. For more insight on this hypothesis, please see the following devotional that I wrote on this subject:

https://www.gfnsproductions.org/apps/blog/show/50425801-dinosaurs-nephilim

The likelihood of which is high given the depiction of Satan’s offspring as reptilian creatures/dragon.

That being said, please note that this is just a hypothesis and not to be viewed as a definitive theological or scientific stance on this matter. There are very well more plausible alternate explanations for the identity of the anti-christ as what has been proposed, one which states that these are figurative representations of kingdoms/nations (Please compare the book of Daniel chapter 7 & 8 with Revelations chapter 13).

Nevertheless, it is possible for one verse to have several explanations/fulfillments as we’ve seen in many cases throughout biblical history. In either case, we know that when the anti-christ/beast appears, the end of this world will come quickly after. Although God will punish Satan swiftly, he still allows him to exist for some time after Armageddon. God even lets him out of prison again at the end of the 1,000 year reign of Christ. As we read:

“And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast—miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.” (Revelations 19:20)

“Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the bottomless pit and a heavy chain in his hand. He seized the dragon—that old serpent, who is the devil, Satan—and bound him in chains for a thousand years. The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished. Afterward he must be released for a little while. When the thousand years come to an end, Satan will be let out of his prison. He will go out to deceive the nations—called Gog and Magog—in every corner of the earth. He will gather them together for battle—a mighty army, as numberless as sand along the seas‘hore. And I saw them as they went up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded God’s people and the beloved city. But fire from heaven came down on the attacking armies and consumed them. Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:1-3, 7-10, 15)

Again, Satan’s primary purpose for existing is to test God’s children in preparation for eternity. During the millennial reign of Jesus Christ, there would have been humans born during this era that had never experienced any testing/temptation by the devil and demons. Thus, Satan’s function would still be necessary to prove whether such individuals would indeed choose to be faithful to God given a choice to do otherwise and rebel. So Satan will continue to exist until all humans have been tested and proven worthy to live forever. At that point, he too will be tossed into the lake of fire never to lead others astray anymore.

Yahweh God has given men every opportunity and circumstance to prove whether they truly love him. Unfortunately, history will continue to show that we ourselves our incapable of being faithful on our own strength. Thus, our ability to be proved worthy for eternal life comes not from our own merits, but from our faith in Jesus’ ransom sacrifice in our behalf. As it is written:

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.” (John 3:16-21)

Still faithfulness to God and endurance/resistance to temptation is still expected on our part; otherwise, we would be no different than those angelic sons of God who rebelled once we too were granted eternal life. And God is too wise to let that whole cosmic rebellion to happen again. Therefore, He makes sure to thoroughly test all those He adopts as Son and daughters from the earth. As it is written:

“So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time here as “temporary residents.” For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake."(1 Peter 1:6-7, 13-20)

“Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world." (1 Peter 4:12-13)

“And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you. For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.” As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all.” (Hebrews 12:5-8)

“You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.” (James 2:19)

As the resurrected glorified Jesus once said:

“I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.” (Revelation 3:19)

So whose child are you? Who will you choose to follow? Jesus or Satan? For you can’t do both (1 Kings 18:21, Matthew 6:24). With that I leave you with this final account of Jesus comments on this matter:

“I am telling you what I saw when I was with my Father. But you are following the advice of your father.” “Our father is Abraham!” they declared. “No,” Jesus replied, “for if you were really the children of Abraham, you would follow his example. Instead, you are trying to kill me because I told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing. No, you are imitating your real father.” They replied, “We aren’t illegitimate children! God himself is our true Father.” Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. Why can’t you understand what I am saying? It’s because you can’t even hear me! For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me! Which of you can truthfully accuse me of sin? And since I am telling you the truth, why don’t you believe me? Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.”” (John 8:38-47)

*Verses referenced but not quoted:

When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord. Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected. “Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” One day Cain suggested to his brother, “Let’s go out into the fields.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him.” (Genesis 4:3-8)

“From that time on, Esau hated Jacob because their father had given Jacob the blessing. And Esau began to scheme: “I will soon be mourning my father’s death. Then I will kill my brother, Jacob.”” (Genesis 27:41)

“When Joseph’s brothers saw him coming, they recognized him in the distance. As he approached, they made plans to kill him. “Here comes the dreamer!” they said. “Come on, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns. We can tell our father, ‘A wild animal has eaten him.’ Then we’ll see what becomes of his dreams!”” (Genesis 37:18-20)

“Then Micaiah [prophesied], “Listen to Yahweh’s words! I saw the Yahweh sitting on his throne with all the armies of heaven around him, on his right and on his left. And the Yahweh said, ‘Who can entice Ahab [the most wicked king in the history of Isreal] to go into battle against Ramoth-gilead so he can be killed?’ There were many suggestions, and finally a spirit approached Yahweh and said, ‘I can do it!’ ‘How will you do this?’ Yahweh asked. “And the spirit replied, ‘I will go out and inspire all of Ahab’s prophets to speak lies.’ “‘You will succeed,’ said Yahweh. ‘Go ahead and do it.’ “So you see, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all your prophets. For Yahweh has pronounced your doom.” (1 Kings 22: 19-23)

“Set thou a wicked man over him: And let Satan [some versus render this verse “the accuser”] stand at his right hand.” ‭‭(Psalm‬ ‭109‬:‭6‬ ‭KJV‬‬ / NLT)
